Last weekend I had the privilege of photographing a 21st birthday party with a Saturday Night at The Movies theme. I love taking natural family photographs prior to an event beginning to capture the anticipation, which we duly did before their 300 guests descended on the private marquee venue. The welcome tent featured a red carpet entrance and, inside, a velvet chaise longue, where guests could don a top hat and pose with a cane for Mirror Imaging's studio lights. This was a great hit with partygoers and a lot of fun. Meanwhile, canapés were served from usherette trays and cocktails flowed from the central bar decked with red roses, with a floral ring of red fern hanging above featuring strings of red and purple fresh carnation heads. When dinner was served the central curtain was pulled back to reveal the main marquee and dancefloor area, decorated in a black and white old-Hollywood theme. More breathtaking floral displays by Vincent & Stubbs adorned every table, with an abundance of candlelight and white orchids. From above, two more striking carnation and fern rings, in all-white with drop crystal, hung like halos on either side of the room. After dinner, speeches and a toast were given to the birthday boy, before The Overtones performed a number of classics. This vocal harmony group were outstanding and we've never seen a dance floor fill up so quickly. The Star Bar provided a chill-out area for guests to take a break from the dance floor, flanked with outdoor fire pits for warmth and drama. We left just after midnight, with the party still in full swing. Happy birthday Harry, we hope you had an amazing night!
